Basic Syntax
What is it?
A basic sentence structure is a clause which is not a question and has no sub phrases. It shows you the typical order of words as they would appear in a normal sentence.
The Rules
The basic word order is:
S = Subject (the do'er)
V = Verb (the action)
IO = Indirect Object (and to whom)
DO = Direct Object (what/who is 'actioned')
Examples
Jeg | giver | hende | blomsterne |
S | V | IO | DO |
---|---|---|---|
[lit: I | give | her | the flowers] |
If you were to use a preposition as til (to) the two objects would swap places just as in English:
Jeg | giver | blomsterne | til | hende |
S | V | DO | Prep | IO |
---|---|---|---|---|
[lit: I | give | the flowers | to | her] |
