Birthdays are celebrated with flags, presents and birthday songs like in many other countries.

Often in the morning the closest family will gather for rundstykker (bread rolls) and the-birkes. Sometimes the grown-ups will enjoy a small glass of Gammel Dansk or akvavit (schnapps).

Later in the day the family will gather and enjoy the birthday cake, lagkage (layer cake) and sing more birthday songs.
