In Denmark children can start pre-school (børnehaveklasse) at 6 years old. Up until then children go to kindergarten and nursery. Childcare is subsidised by the state.

At 7 years of age første klasse (year 1) begins. 9 years of school is mandatory so 10. klasse is voluntary.

After 9. or 10. klasse you can do, as many do, go to technical college (teknisk skole), college (gymnasium) or business college (HF).

After this there are the higher educations university or Business School where you do your bachelor and master degrees.
